TOBERMAN TO HONOR NFL GREAT TERRELL OWENS WITH ITS 2016 LEGENDS AWARD

Annual Gala to Benefit Programs of One of Los Angeles’s Oldest Nonprofits

SAN PEDRO, CA – February 25, 2016 – Toberman Neighborhood Center, one of the oldest community-based nonprofits in Los Angeles, will host its Annual Charity Gala dinner at the Long Beach Hyatt on March 26 to honor Six-Time NFL Pro-Bowler Terrell “TO” Owens with the 2016 Toberman Legends Award.  Television personality and radio host, Petros Papadakis, will emcee the event.

The evening gala celebrate 113 years of community service in lifting children out of poverty and empowering families to live healthy and purposeful lives in San Pedro. The event’s theme, “The Drive “TO” Succeed,” will focus on Owen’s diverse and generous philanthropic efforts. He is a Six-Time NFL Pro Bowler and former American football wide receiver played 15 seasons in the NFL and holds or shares several NFL records.  As a philanthropist and humanitarian, Owens is just as exceptional and accomplished off of the field as he is on. With a motivation to change lives, he has launched the “What TO Do Global” campaign, an initiative with the goal of empowering and motivating youth around the world.

Dr. Linda Matlock, CEO of Toberman Neighborhood Center, shared her excitement: “We are delighted to honor Terrell Owens with our 2016 Legends Award, recognizing his commitment to improving the lives of at-risk youth by demonstrating the drive and perseverance needed to succeed in life. All attendees will be able to meet one of the NFL’s greatest stars and learn about his humanitarian efforts.”

Past Toberman Gala honorees include John Wooden, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kobe and Vanessa Bryant, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Walton, James Worthy, Vin Scully, Louis Zamperini and Tommy Lasorda.
