Why Now?

  • Last March, roughly 16 million U.S. K-12 students lacked access to a working device, reliable high-speed internet, or both. The internet went from being a must-have, to a critical lifeline for most everyone to connect to information, and each other, across the world. Progress has been made, but there is plenty of work to do to establish an inclusive future, where everyone can securely access the economic, educational, and health opportunities they need.
  • With this executive panel, we will explore how we can come together as a collective ecosystem to bridge the digital divide in the United States, ensuring that everyone has equal access to a reliable internet connection. The panelists will share what their role is in this effort, what barriers still exist and how much progress has been made today.

Original Research:

To set the stage for the panel, Cisco has commissioned original research to produce and distribute a ‘Cisco: U.S. Municipal Infrastructure Index 2021’ report, providing a data-driven look at where broadband infrastructure is being prioritized for municipalities across the country. The research conducted by nationally recognized research firm, Probolsky Research, will be tracked and analyzed by various criteria including city and county size, geography, and other factors. Over 10,000 municipalities have been polled.
